Hooding is similar to a pelmet system. It is a four sided box that sits at the top of your awning and protects the tube and fabric it from the elements. Standard colours are free of charge, with powder coating as an additional option at $15 per Meter.

Balanced Joins

Balanced joins only apply to canvas fabrics and are when joins are needed to be placed in the fabric due to its size being bigger than the fabric. Instead of placing the joins flush in the middle of the awning, we place two on both edges of the fabric with equal distancing between them, thus making them less noticeable. (As shown above). There are no joins needed for mesh fabric.

Valance (Straight / Scallop)

A valance is a piece of decorative fabric that is placed underneath the bottom rail of your awning. There are two different styles of valance, either straight cut or scallop. Valance offers additional protection, by stopping any wind, water or debris from coming under your awning.

You can choose to have no valance, however you will be able to see your bottom rail as it will not be covered. The photo to the right illustrates a straight cut valance installed on the bottom of the five awnings.

Bottom Rail

Your bottom rail is the metal pole located at the bottom of your awning. A pull down ring is located at the center of the railing for your pull stick to hook onto and to pull your awning down. The rail will be in the same colour as your hooding.

Benefits

Motorisation options available for Fixed Guide Awnings, Wire Guides and Spring Roller only. Sleek and stylish blinds that can highlight any space. Smooth and easy operation. Reduce heat, glare and direct sunlight coming into your home. Awnings are a more efficient and less costly option to control the heat coming into your home compared to internal treatments alone.

Depending on your fabric choice, up to 100% of UV protection can be obtained. Ideal for privacy. Life Blinds Retractable Awnings are all custom made to exact measurements to suit your windows.

Our Canvas fabrics are water resistant and have a protective layer to guard against mould and mildew, increasing the life of the fabric. All our Retractable Awnings have splines sewn in for the top and bottom of the fabric to ensure the fabric does not slip, slide or come away from the tube or bottom rail.

Care and Cleaning

To ensure proper function of the blind, fully extend blind on a regular basis. Roll up only when blind is clean and dry. Roll up completely if high windows or storms are expected so no undue strain is placed on the fittings and mountings. Roll up blind when doing maintenance work nearby (eg. Cleaning gutters, mowing and trimming lawns). Pull blind down evenly standing from a centre position and use your pull down stick if necessary.

To remove mildew, dirt and grime from blind, brush dry fabric with a soft brush (do not scrub or wet the surface with a hose) and dry off in the sun. Remove mildew as soon as it appears. To avoid stains remove any organic matter promptly from surface (leaves, grass, bird droppings or vehicle exhaust). Do not use soap, detergents, solvents or other liquid cleaners on fabric. Never use strong bleaches (eg. Chlorine).

Motorisation

Motorisation is a popular option for many households and commercial applications. It can be particularly useful for larger blinds or blinds mounted in hard-to-reach locations. With the touch of a button, the blind can be lowered, operating on either household or solar power.

The motor is hidden within the pelmet and looks no different to a non-motorised blind. You can stop the blind at any height, whilst the motor provides a quiet, smooth glide. Life Blinds recommends motorisation for only Sunshade blinds; not clear PVC. See next page for motorisation pricing.

Sun and Wind Sensors

This is a combined sensor that measures both level of sun as well as the level of wind. This type of sensor offers you the ultimate in automation allowing protection of furniture, reducing heating costs in your home and protecting your awning from damage.

The sun sensor is designed to bring the awning out when the sun is starting to hit the windows of your home, then will take them back as the sun goes down. The wind sensor is also there to offer protection to your awning should the winds become too strong.

It is available in two versions by remote control. 240v Powered or Solar Powered or as a hard wired product.

CHOOSING YOUR AWNING

Rope and Pulley

Rope and Pulley Awnings are commonly used for shop fronts, restaurants and of course for residential verandas, pergolas and patios. They are operated by an easy Rope and Pulley system.

Our Rope and Pulley Awning is a simple yet functional and versatile awning perfect for use to protect your veranda from the sun, wind, dust and rain. Featuring a rope and pulley system for extension and retraction, durable screen material and optional features that can be chosen according to requirements, this straight drop traditional screen can be used for many applications.

This awning can either drop straight down or at an angle, depending on your preference. The 50mm galvanized steel tube and aluminium top track give it a minimalist yet elegant finish, but you can also opt for a valance or scallop to increase the aesthetics of the screen even further. The rope and pulley awning drop screen can fit into any environment and blend in perfectly well. It is made from the highest quality materials, so once you install one, you don’t have to worry about any problems for years to come.

Operation

Using the attached cord, slowly and carefully pull the cord towards you. Once the awning has completely retracted into the hooding wrap the cord around the rope cleat to hold it in place.

Fixed Guide Awning

Fixed Guide Awnings are ideal for double or multi storey windows on residential homes or commercial buildings. They are spring loaded and are most commonly operated with a rope system, either internally or externally, with the option to also have crank handle or motor.

Auto Awning

Auto Awnings consist of a set of arms which are attached to guides that are secured onto your wall. You can move your awning up and down by using a hooked stick that attaches to the bottom rail of your awning.

Traditional, modern or conservative, residential or commercial, Automatic Awnings are an easy efficient way to cool your home by blocking the heat from direct sunlight from getting in. By preventing the heat, Automatic Awnings will reduce your cooling bills in summer. Easy to use, Automatic Awnings are operated by a Pull Down stick, which hooks into the bottom rail and can be positioned at any height to suit your convenience.

Arm Sizes Available
